In my travels around Michigan’s 88th House District these last few months, I met so many fine people who work hard and love where they live. I would have been proud to represent all of you in Lansing. However, that did not happen.
We have made great progress in Michigan with a Democratic legislative majority and this campaign has succeeded in raising voter awareness and moving the 88th closer to good governance. I am grateful to all of our voters, supporters, contributors, and the volunteers who were central to our campaign.
I congratulate Greg VanWoerkom on another term.
Sincerely,
Tim Meyer
Tim Meyer is well known in the MI 88th District as the founder of Rock 'n' Road Cycle, a full-service bicycle business located in Grand Haven, with an additional store in Holland. He is also a biking enthusiast (he actually rode across the country during the Bicentennial in 1976). So, when he saw those two O’s in Choose, he just couldn’t resist!
The business now belongs to son Matt, but Tim still helps a few hours a week: most small business owners dream of keeping the business in the family, and that is the case with Rock 'n' Road Cycle.
Tim calls this “our” campaign, because of the area's long history of strong volunteer involvement and civic mindedness. We can flip this seat and make Tim our voice in Lansing!
Tim and his wife, Patty Sutherland, who live in Grand Haven Township, share a blended family of three sons, one daughter, two grandchildren, and a love of politics. Born in Delaware, Ohio, Tim earned a BA in Economics, Political Science, Urban Studies, and Econometrics, from Ohio’s College of Wooster in 1978. He went on to work on several campaigns, most notably knocking doors for Barack Obama in three states and leading the Grand Haven Obama ‘08 canvass operation. He himself ran for State Representative in 2016.
Always working for community causes, Tim served on the City of Grand Haven Central Business District Development Authority, is a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership Academy, and worked with Ottawa County Parks, County Commission, and local townships to add four-foot shoulders to Lakeshore Drive for the safety of cyclists and convenience of motorists. He is a member and Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, and has served youth as a Youth Group leader, Science Olympiad Coach-national level, and Odyssey of the Mind Coach.
“I recently asked a couple dozen people to name their state Representative-not a single person got it right! For decades, this gerrymandered district has been represented by someone who didn’t make waves or good policy but was backed by wealthy donors with specific interests. Thanks to the volunteers who put Proposal 2 of 2018 on the ballot, we have a new district, created by a citizens' commission, centered on the Tri-Cities, Norton Shores and the surrounding area.
You see me at First Presbyterian Church, my kids went to area schools with your kids, and you see me riding my bike on Lakeshore Drive. I’m easy to reach as a candidate, I listen, and I promise to be available to you as your Representative.”
